Like any other ultrasound test pregnancy ultrasound scan has no adverse effects, it is pain and X-ray free, and it is a reliable examination procedure. The aim of the pregnancy ultrasound scan is to monitor intra-uterin fetal development, diagnose any developmental disorder, and detect any maternal or fetal emergency situation. We suggest 5 ultrasound scans during pregnancy. In the course of the 1st ultrasound scan gestational age is detected and the date of birth is defined. At this point, it is defined if there is one or multiple pregnancy. During the ultrasound scan embryos can be seen and the position of the FS within the intra-uterine. By detection of cardiac activity the pregnancy is proved. Besides pregnancy possible abnormalities of the maternal internal genitals can be detected. The 2nd ultrasound scan is done in the 12th week of the pregnancy, when the anatomy of the fetal is detected. The signs of the chromosomal diseases can be detected as well as the developmental disorders. The position of the placenta is detected, the quantity of the amniotic fluid is detected, as well as the NT (nuchal translucency) is done. The 3rd ultrasound scan is done between the 18th and 22nd week of the pregnancy. The aim of the ultrasound scan is to detect developmental disorders of the fetal, to monitor its development, as well as detecting the position of the placenta and the quantity of the amniotic fluid. The 4th ultrasound scan is done in the 32th week of the pregnancy. At this stage fetal growth is examined, the amount of the amniotic fluid is detected, the position and the structure of the placenta, as well as the weight of the fetal is detected. Umbilical artery is examined by a Doppler ultrasound test. The 5th ultrasound scan is done between 36th and 38th week of the pregnancy. At this stage information relevant for delivery is being gathered, pre-delivery stage is recorded and the possible emergency situations either of the mother or the fetal is checked. In the Szent István Healthcare centre the genealogical ultrasound is done with the 4D abdominal and/or vaginal transducer. In case of abdominal ultrasound the bladder must be full of liquid, in case of vaginal ultrasound test empty bladder is required.
