24-hour Holter ECG monitoring
Most cardiac arrhythmias appear periodically. As they cannot be perceived permanently, they often cannot be read on ECG charts. In these cases we can use a Holter monitor to record electrocardiogram data for 24 hours continuously.
When having a 24-hour Holter ECG, you need to wear a small box which is a portable ECG device. You need to wear it in a purse for 24 hours continuously. During the day you are allowed to do your normal everyday activities which you need to keep a diary of for your doctor. The device is removed after 24 hours and the data recorded is evaluated with the help of a computer. If hypoxia or cardiac arrhythmia occurred during the day, regardless of the time, it can be detected and then a treatment can be given.
